Description

In this third session on Xing Yi Quan we first discuss the place of Xing Yi in an Integral Chuan training. We discuss how in addition to gratefully following Master Haโ€™s teachings from the Integral Chuan institute, I add a perspective which comes from my research, writings, and exploration of cross cultural wisdom traditions. Youโ€™โ€™ll learn this post-modern way of practicing traditional Xing Yi.

What youโ€™ll learn from this video:

  • Learn what a โ€œPostmodern Approachโ€ * to Xing Yi can be. A postmodern approach honors all aspects of traditional training, but adds individualized meanings of those movements for each of our unique lives. As well, postmodernism in our approach expands from ethnocentric origins of a tradition and enriches and amplifies a traditional practice with cross-cultural associations. For example, throughout the Integral Chuan series weโ€™ve said that Tai Chi Chuan can be practicedย  with four intents: self healing, spiritual unfoldment, self defense, and changing oneโ€™s life psychological life stance. The same is true for Xing Yi,ย  Bagua, and Yi Chuan.
  • An esoteric view of a purpose of Xing Yiโ€” a postmodern view of becoming an adept of the elements.
  • Xing Yi postures as mudras. When practicing each posture as a Standing Meditation Mudra find your personal meaning,
  • Each posture has multidimensional purposes: Self-healing, spiritual unfoldment, self-defense and chasing your life stance psychologically.
  • Discover how the process of the stages of initiation in the Western esoteric tradition apply to the training in the Chinese internal artsโ€” Becoming anย  acolyte, initiate, adept, and master.
  • Review of the postures and movements of the five elements of Xing Yi and their psychological and healing purposes, and applications to your everyday life. Finding your unique meanings and individualized healing pathways.

โ€ข An integral perspective on the importance of integrating the martial and self defense aspects of Xing Yi into your practice. How can you โ€œcount coupโ€ on your opponent and enhance activating the four proposes of its movements thereby.

  • Learn the importance of integrating the past teachings from Bodymind Healing Qigong apply to and enhance the practice of Xing yi such as: wuji qigong, Standing Mediation Qigong, finding your psychological life stance,ย  integrating chi cultivating methods fromBodymind Healing Qigong series with your Xing Yi practice.

Some corollary practices to consider:

A. Practice the fire element posture and meditate on how to spread love and compassion through your heart.

B. Practice the earth element posture and reflect on what you need to ground yourself in your life.

C. Practice the metal element posture and consider what you need to cut through in your life.

D. Practice the water element posture and meditate on bringing the “waters of life” to yourself and others.

E.Practice the wood element posture and reflect on finding proper self-assertion versus rage.
